If you have been on OSU’s campus you have probably seen a squirrl eating french fries. I’ve seen it numerous times now. Day before yesterday I saw one run away with part of an egg mcmuffin. The worst, however, was once, I saw one chewing on a ciggaratte butt.
I don’t get white people and the “anti-butt”. For example my two co-workers, both white men, were talking about this girl they thought was hot “but she has a big butt”. You would almost never hear a black guy or a Latino guy say “Dude she is hot but her ass is to big”.
I took a movement class for preforming artists, Alexander Technique, in class we learned to realistically know the shape of our body. I loved the class. Anyway, one day we focused on our butts the prof put his hand on the sides of our butt checks and helped us feel the space. The women in the class became sad as they realized how big their butts were (all of them were white). The prof placed his hands on me and I started to feel all that space! He walked while touching me around the room. I walked differently and proclaimed loudly “I’ve got tail!” It was awesome. It was the first time in my life that I felt like I had a big round butt and I loved it. My mother and my best friend Jaime (as well as some men) have made fun of me for the lack of my ass, but I then learned how to work what I had. Dude, I got tail.
Not all WHITE people are ashamed of having a butt. I am white and i have a really nice round butt, and I have many white friends who love their butts, and many black and latino friends who arent too fond of butts. I see where you are going but I don’t think its a race issue.
Holly, I agree not all white people are ashamed or unattracted to large bottoms. It is however, a cultural feature that some of us are taught to find attractive. For example, in some cultures thin is beautiful, and in some cultures fat is beautiful. I think it is the same for butts. As a wise man once said “I like big butts, I cannot lie…I’m tired of magazines saying flat butt’s the only thing Take the average black man and ask him that She gotta pack much back…”
I do think it is a cultural thing, actually. Eating disorders are almost universally a white issue (this, sadly, is changing and more minorities are developing eating disorders). In studies I’ve read, black teenage girls are more likely to express pride in their bodies, while white teenage girls are ashamed. White women are expected to be tiny, painfully thin, which kind of procludes having a round butt. I don’t think this expectation exists in the black community as strongly (I, of course, can only say this as an outsider). Certainly, there are other cultural standards of beauty that are just as ridiculous (straightened hair, for example), but body shape ideals seem to not transfer between cultures. And of course, there are exceptions to every rule. But on balance there is less appreciation for a big butt in cracker culture.
Yeah, I don’t get the flat ass thing at all. I’ve probably got about 50 guy friends – white, brown, black, different political persuasions, different classes, different jobs, different interests and yet there is one thing that brings us together.
We all like ass.
I hear it all the time … how white guys want small butts, but I have never once in my entire life met a white man who prefers small butts. Small waists sure, but otherwise …
And when I’m in the gym all the white girls are always doing the butt blaster machine. I constantly overhear them ask the trainers, “how do I get more ass?” (I of course also ask this)
So I want to know, are there really white guys out there who prefer small butts?
Most guys I’ve talked to/dated/etc. like the butt as well — I think most women’s body issues arise from competition with other women. When I say “culture”, I’m not really thinking of what men want in women, but what women expect for themselves. So, magazines tell you to have a small butt. And they make clothes for girls with small butts. Trust me. I have a butt and hips and it is impossible to find pants that fit both my butt and my waist. There is always, always a huge gap at the waist and the pants are tight on the butt. Everyone I’ve talked to about it doesn’t necessarily want a bigger butt, but a rounder butt. There is a difference, I think. But if big asses are in, hallelujah.
squirrels on the ucla campus eat everything. they’re fat. i had a conversation with my younger sister recently. i had to console her because as she lost some weight she was beginning to lose some of her ass (and breasts). i think she’s trying to do more butt building exercise to make sure she gets her part of the ass she inherited from my mom.
I have never seen a squirrel with a big butt. I wonder if they have the same issues…
well, it would seem i am the minority here. i wish it weren’t true, but i have a flat butt. Curvy hips, but a flat behind. it seems that the in thing is having a great big round ass. which is okay too.
ideally, i wish that different types of bodies were seen as beautiful.

i am a guy and have a flat butt. I always did want to have a rounded butt but was surprised when a few girls said my butt is cute and they love it. i love girls with curvy butt..not really rounded.

UGh, I hate how the standard has totally changed from breasts to bootie. I am really thin (size 2) have a c cup and curvy hips but am short waisted. Basically, that means I have hips but no ass and long legs. Damm, if I lived in the 50′s this would be great! I am Latina and get hit on by Latin and Black guys from the front, but I don’t get a second look from the back! You know whose type I am? Asian men. Indian guys and Chinese women love me! White men have totally flipped on me! Sorry, not all Latinas look like J Lo!
Just be glad you have a butt. Some people had to have their butts, legs, and feet amputated due to medical reasons.

I’m 33 and I often wished I had a bigger butt and found myself staring longingly at other women’s big jiggly butts and wonder how shapely I would be had I been double blessed in the derriere department. However, summer got here and I suddenly realized I wouldn’t give up my medium sized butt for anything when I realize I have literally no cellulite on my thighs and everywhere I look, I see nothing but cottage-cheese thighs. I guess we have to appreciate what we have by comparing it to what we would like to have, and would the difference be worth it in the long run? I look at my mom’s 57 yr old cellulite-free, killer gams and medium sized butt and say ‘no thanks, I’ll keep what I have’.
