KW, warns in the comments to be careful of how we present information to children. When George Bush Sr. became president, I was about 7-8 years old. I was frightened by it and thought that we were all going to die and that the world was going to end because he had won. I was crying and my father comforted me, he put his arm around me and said “The world isn’t going to end, it is just going to go to hell.” Not a way to comfort a young child.

Disney Evil
October 22, 2004 by elenamary
I babysat for two little girls this morning, a three year old and a seven year old.
This was my conversation with the seven-year-old.
Child-”Can I go to disney.com?”
Me- “No, Disney is an evil company”
Child- “Why?”
Me- “Because they don’t support their workers and don’t allow unions. They aren’t labor friendly.”
Child- “You are mean to Disney”
Me- “I am not being mean, I like cartoons, I just don’t like their labor relations”
Child- “Is there a cartoon.com?”
Me- “Yes”
Child- “Can I visit that site?”
Me- “Yes, I don’t know what their politics are like.”Category Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments

I am running on very little sleep and not feeling very rebellious–which I love feeling. I wish this song was about me.

Mr. & Ms.
October 20, 2004 by elenamary
I absolute dislike using Mr. and Ms. with anyone unless they are an elderly African-American. I avoided in school ever refering to teachers as Mr.Fulano or Ms. Fulano. The only reason I think (especially elderly) African-Americans hold on to it so much and want to be refered that way is because they always had to do it to white people. So, if by calling an elderly African-American by their first name is like calling them “boy” or “gril”, I won’t do it, and that is why with them I don’t feel so bad using Mr. or Ms.
I try hard not to call anyone Dr.so-so or Mr.So-so or President so-so. However, I do use the titles jokingly. I call mistersleepy, Dr. McPocho.
Just don’t make me do it in seriousness, especially if you have the privilage of being white, or the privilage of having wealth or the privilage of having an education.Category Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments

laugh a little
October 20, 2004 by elenamary
Current politics can be pretty depressing. I think we all need to laugh a little. Enjoy the following links.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart all kinds of great stuff, check out a debate between Gov. Bush and Dubya, or their website dedicated to this years election Indecision 2004.
Endless Love Bush and Blair sing “Endless love” to each other
Gay Bar This really childish and somewhat like Bevis and Butthead humor but I can’t help but laughing at it.
GeorgeWBush.org Articles, videos, commentary think of it as similar to The Onion.
Hard Working George a one minute video clip of Dubya explaining during the debates what it means to be president.
JibJabThis site offers two funny, mocking, music videos of Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards.
Mark Fiore awesome funny political animations.
The Real (Abridged) Republican Convention
How many times can you say September 11th in one convention?Viva Bush a faceious look at Dubya and his reaching out to latino voters. It has some great mock commericals as well as commentary.
Words speak louder than actions A mocumentry from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
White House.org Like The Onion, but with a lot more mock articles.
Will Ferrell: A Message from White House West Will Ferrell impersonates Dubya for a commercial.

Sikh=terrorist
October 19, 2004 by elenamary
An Ohio State Freshman Sikh gets on the campus bus and the other students think he looks suspicious so one of them uses their cell phone camera to take a picture of him and then sends it to the campus police. The campus police find the freshman and call the FBI. The FBI interrogates him. Can you believe this? You can read more about it from the OSU student newspaper.
