  2. Friday Night

    December 17, 2004 by elenamary

I had dinner with my friend Paul at The Ravari Room. And I had a nice night planned of cleaning my room, writing Christmas cards at a coffee shop and maybe seeing a movie.
However, today I started a new medicine at dinner and it has left me visiting the porcelin god rather frequently. As such you will all be fortunate enough to get a half-way decent entry about infatuation and education.

I have the most formal education of anyone in my immediate family. On important dates in our lives my mother writes, my siblings and I, sweet loving letters. She works long and hard on them. She writes them and re-writes them. Every word written is heart felt. She practices them on sheets and sheets of paper. Then she buys some shiney, bubbley-colorful-kitsch card and writes it for a final time. Her handwriting is large, with capital and lower case letters indiscriminately used, incorrect tenses, and mispelled words. But I am always touched when I read them. She is proud of me, she loves me.

Today, I received a “love note” from a young man who has a crush on me. It reminded me a lot of my mothers letters in that I could see so much effort. He wanted to impress me, I could tell he had worked hard on it, that he had tried to use “big” words. All I could focus on was the fact he mispelled “luscious” and that his poetic attempts were poor as he refered to my “cute lil button nose”. I feel bad for being so judgemental. He tried so hard, he wanted so much to please to me and all I could think about were his mispellings, and his attempt to poetically impress. It reminded me of Anne’s comment. I really am arrogant aren’t I?

    December 16, 2004 by elenamary

I recognize that my blog has been particularly bad this month (more so than usual) and I am not really going to change that for now. 4. phone-jamming get-out-the-vote

    December 15, 2004 by elenamary

Anyone shocked? I am not really but pissed as hell. How many Americans know about this important (and yes it is important) news story?

    Ex-Bush campaign official indicted

    The Associated Press
    Updated: 8:09 p.m. ET Dec. 13, 2004
“CONCORD, N.H. – President Bush’s former New England campaign chairman pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he took part in the jamming of the Democrats’ get-out-the-vote telephone lines on Election Day 2002.”

Former Bush campaign official indicted in phone-jamming
In 2002, six phone lines run by the Democrats and the Manchester firefighters union were tied up for 11/2 hours by 800 computer-generated hang-up calls. Federal prosecutors said Tobin and other Republicans had hired a company to make the calls to disrupt the organizations’ get-out-the-vote efforts.
