    September 19, 2005 by elenamary

Como ya saben ahorita ando en mi campaña para el puesto de representante para Mexicanos en Ohio, Kentucky y Indiana. Con eso les presento noticias de la ultima semana de Mexicanos en Ohio, y Indiana.

  2. Chris Matthews is an idiot

    September 18, 2005 by elenamary

Did I just hear that? I did not just hear that. I was watching The Chris Matthews Show this morning, when Chris Matthews asked Ed Gordon the lone black man, if George Bush’s commitment to Louisiana could be equated to Reparations? What the heck? I wish I could quote him exactly, but the transcripts aren’t up. Is this reparations for slavery? Or as my friend Joe asks “or for the ‘slow motion fucking’ of successive generations of poverty?” (Which I would of course say can also be attributed to slavery).

Chirs Matthews, I liked you, but you are an idiot.

  3. Mexicana, Latina, Chicana

    September 17, 2005 by elenamary

Soy Mexicana, Latina, Xicana (Chicana) lo que sea, pero por favor en describir me no usar palabras como “Caliente”, “Picante”, y “Enchilada”. Es ignorante, aumente los estereotipos y me construyes como un objeto sexual.

I am Mexican, Latina, Xicana (Chicana) whatever you want, but please don’t describe me by using adjectives like “Hot” “Spicy” and “a Chile”. It is ignorant, increases stereotypes and constructs me as some kind of sexual object.

  4. 2005 Latino Law Summit

    September 16, 2005 by elenamary

I just found out from The Chicano Law Institute that the 2005 Latino Law Summit is being held here in Columbus, Ohio. It seems that October 20th, The Ohio State University Mortiz College of Law will be hosting the event.

Latino Law Summit 2005 will cultivate an intellectual discussion on contemporary Latino issues including: immigration policy, the Latino role in the political process, and education and economic attainment. Summit 2005 brings together distinguished legal scholars in the Latino community to share their insight on the Latino experience. Join the Hispanic Law Students Association at the Moritz College of Law as we increase awareness of these Latino issues and help develop an agenda for action.

Today, I spent this afternoon at the Ohio State house where in celebration of Mexico’s indpendence (¡Viva México!) we raised the Mexican flag, sang the anthem, watched some folkloric dances, it was enjoyable. Too bad we didn’t have a grito.

  5. Ohio Political Bloggers where are you?

    September 15, 2005 by elenamary

I’ve got to say I am a little disappointed right now with Ohio Political Bloggers.

I’ve received a lot of support in my campaign from Latino bloggers .

However, and I am not so much looking for support but mention of this very important election, from the Ohio Political Bloggers. This position is one of importance in both Mexico and The United States and deals directly with people in the State of Ohio (as well as Kentucky and Indiana).

According to the 2000 US census 90,663 people in Ohio identified as being either Mexican or of Mexican origin (this did not include me as I selected “Two or more races”).
Indiana counted 153,042 people as being either Mexican or of Mexican origin. Kentucky counted 31,385.

Of course we all know the numbers are much higher as undocumented Mexicans are very difficult to get data on. The point of mentioning these numbers is to make note that this is a significant group, a significant constituency and as such this political election should be picked up by Political Ohio Bloggers.

Why hasn’t it been? Does it not count as an election because it is not “mainstream” enough? This seat is a seat as a Representative for (if we follow the 2000 US Census) 275,090 people. Any of you political Ohio bloggers want to do a little investigation into this election? Or even mention that such an election is going on?

  6. Basically

    September 14, 2005 by elenamary

I hate the word ‘basically’ and let me make it clear this is not a word that can be used correctly in writing EVER, and the only time it can somewhat be used correctly in spoken form is when using it as a filler like “ummm”.

Whenever someone uses the word “basically” they are most likely either being patronizing or about to say something that lacks valididty.

“Basically what is going on is…”

Is it going on or not? Are you going to give me the details or do you think that I won’t be able to follow. I don’t like the word basically. And now I hear that Mexican newscasters are picking it up from their US counterparts and saying “basicamente”. Please end the absurdity.
