how do you say…

Some of you may have caught in my previous entry that I used the word “costal” because I don’t know what you call that kind of sack in English. English has a word for it I just don’t know what it is. Sometimes however, there are things I can’t explain from one language to another. For example right now I am sin ganas.
How do I explain that to people? The Yahoo! online dictionary says:

gana
(Spanish)

ga·na
f.
1. (deseo) – desire, longing
2. (apetito) – appetite
darle ganas (darle la gana de) – to feel like
de buena (mala) gana – willingly (unwillingly)
de gana – energetically, eagerly

f. pl.
con ganas – heartily
tener ganas de – to want to, feel like
sin ganas – unwillingly

I am sin ganas not “unwillingly”. I want to climb into bed and sleep. Or go spend the day sipping on cider and shooting with Equinox. Some of you may find this odd. Ohio has a “right to carry concealed” gun, and I am thinking of getting my license to do so. But really the truth is I just want to sit and veg for a little bit. I don’t have any anima or ganas. Which isn’t that I am unwilling but that part of my spirit has left me and is currently lost.

  1. i love that it’s totally acceptable to say, “tengo flojera,” and spanish speaking people are like, “bueno pues.” no big deal. but in english, you can’t just say you’re lazy and have people be cool with it. i agree with the above comment–the protestant work ethic sucks. sometimes we need to rest. sometimes we need to just *be*.

  2. no desire: I have no desire all the time. I have no desire to do anything…. i think its perfectly fine too. as for the concealed cary, wanna go to the range sometime and get some practice in first?

  3. do i wanna go with you to the range or in general…and i have the same answer for both “yes”. I don’t think you can ever get in too much practice. I grew up with guns and my dad would take us target shooting. In fact I am planning to go out to his house (he lives in the boondocks) and go shooting with him too.
