Cafe ta who?
I saw a picture of myself last night from right after Christmas. I was fat. Really fat. It was horrible. I visited my doctor a couple of weeks ago to find out I had gained 14lbs since August. I haven’t been going to Capoeira. I haven’t been exercising and I miss it. Time to start-up again and lose that weight I’ve gained and a bit more. However, last night all I could think about was how fat I looked and felt. I didn’t want to go out. I was embarrassed to be seen in public. So, I did what good fat Americans do to numb everything, I turned on the TV.
I was flipping through the channels when I heard before I saw. I heard Café Tacuba’s song Ingrata. I had been flipping throw the channels so fast I had to flip back to the song and there they were Café Tacuba on my local PBS channel in concert. The concert was filmed in Austin and I would swear that I saw El Mas Chingón in the crowd.
The concert I most regret missing in my life was a Café Tacuba show back in 1994. I was in 9th grade and living in Taxco. Every year Taxco has its Feria de la Plata and every evening for a week bands play. I only recall two other performers that week Yuri and Los Mestizos. The night Café Tacuba played I was exhausted and while I “liked” what of Café Tacuba I had heard didn’t know their music and so I went home. Their songs carried all the way to my home and I listened to Café Tacuba and the crowds that night.
The next year when I would return to the States La Macarena was all the rage (one of the Mestizos big hits) and no longer cool in Mexico. And a couple years later Cafe Tacuba had also taken off big time in the States.
And now? I watched Café Tacuba on local TV in Columbus, Ohio with their box set sitting on my desk.

everyone feels slovenly after the holidays. once the year gets going, everyone gets back to normal. the bonus is that watching tv you caught part of a cool show!
Comment on January 15, 2006 05:45 pmThat’s so funny. I just saw a show here in Austin at Frontera Fest that featured some excellent and scary Capoeira. I’m going to write about it, I’ll send you the link.
Maybe you should try pole dancing and strip tease like Teri Hatcher. Lose weight but keep your curves.
Comment on January 15, 2006 06:20 pmElenita, that was me!!
I forgot to tell people aside from mentioning inside one of my comments in my music podcast. Rachelle and I were in the front row of the Austin City Limits taping. It was a blast and yes, you can see me several several times.
I myself want to get back into a more active way. I used to be, I don’t know what happened, but I gained 12 lbs in the non-active process.
Gracias for your kind words on my blog y perhaps un dia we’ll meet!
Comment on January 16, 2006 11:48 amI know what you mean about getting active. I’ve felt super stressed because of all the pent up energy from not exercising. Today I actually cried in the shower because my roommate didn’t leave me any hot water. Nick mentioned that Evolved was putting together a co-ed dodgeball team. I think something like that would be great. If you come here in March, we will play some Capoeira. If not, in May when I visit.
Comment on January 16, 2006 03:02 pmno te agüites elenita, weight comes and goes, but life is for the moment. when people say i’m gaining weight, i say that there’s nothing wrong with being a large mammal. i started running again do.
Comment on January 17, 2006 04:41 amDid you see me Elena? Just kidding. Cafe Tacuba rocks!! I rank them at the top alongside Jaguares/Caifanes and Mana.
Comment on January 17, 2006 07:28 pmI’m bummed I missed the show. EMC gave me a heads up, but that night was supposed to be Big Booty Shake Down at the Whistlestop, which I had been talking up to HP. Turned out it wasn’t, there were hardly any girls at all, and I woulda been better staying at home with PBS.
Didn’t stop me from shaking my booty though, which I think is the best exercise out there. Anyway, trying to get back in shape in January I think is a pretty universal sentiment. Dave and I hit the pool today for the first time in months. My back is killing me.

I’ve always wanted to do capoera. I knew a girl a while back ago who was doing it and she told me I had the built for it. She encouraged me to do it, but I never did.
I want to learn how to swim, I think I need that to coincide with running, or yoga tambien.
I think they’re showing the Austin City Limits show several times this week. Just check the local listing. If anything, guys, you’ll see me wearing the most nerdiest shirt ever worn in the front row of a PBS show.
Patri, weren’t you at the Beck ACL taping a few years ago?
