A FREE Album of Great Music

March 19, 2006 by elenamary

Hipster Kid 1: “Knock Knock”
Hipster Kid 2: “Who’s there?”
Hipster Kid 1: “What?! You haven’t already heard this one?!”

You know all those cool hip kids who find out about great new music before anyone else? I am about to make all of you one of those hip kids. For those of you who haven’t heard of Masterminds or Company Flow then I am about to make you cooler than you have ever been in your life!

The Masterminds had Kimani Rogers and Company Flow had Mr. Len. What happens when you combine Mr. Len and Kimani Rogers? You get a black muppet. Seriously, it isn’t some kind of hipster joke, you get a black muppet named Roosevelt Franklin. Kind-of. You see Mr. Len and Kimani got together and formed the group Roosevelt Franklin. Now they have their second record out Bare Food. And they are doing something revolutionary. They are giving it out for FREE.

Before their label starts charging and distributing the album they are giving it to fans for free. They want as many people as possible to have their music. And we should be happy and grateful for it, because this is some good music.

Their music is fun and playful—just like muppet love. It is catchy and it is being spread for you. As their opening song starts:

this is for those nitpicking idiots, the sycophantic hypocrites
who scream out, “underground” but make it sound just so ridiculous
and me i’m fucking sick of it, I make records for distributing
for the masses to consume it if they can jump aboard the movement

Come on people jump on the true underground, fun and no one taking themselves too seriously. One of my favorite songs is I Saw It On Oprah

Don’t smoke crack, mcdonald’s makes you fat and the gas prices are high
Bill gates is rich, and Madonna is a bitch and brad and jen bye bye
The President’s a dummy, the Donald has money and mad cow makes you sick
Jacko’s a wacko, cancer from tobacco and fish goes good with grits
I saw it on oprah
I saw it on oprah
So I know it must be true

And my second favorite song is Alone Together. I am embarrassed to say that I found myself singing along to “Alone Together” without listening to the lyrics. The lyrics get wonderfully stuck in your head and you can’t help but sing along. I am embarrassed though because once I stopped to listen to the words, and not just sing along, I was moved. Don’t worry though, not to get too sappy on you go ahead and listen to “Tres Minutos” which I would say is actually my number one favorite, but then I am sure you will all laugh at me once you hear it…ahh go ahead and listen to it and laugh too!

Go download it! It is good and free and you can be a hipster and say “Ohh yeah, I got Bare Food, before you could buy it in stores”. Go spread the word, let’s get this music to spread faster than herpes in a sorority.

PS Roosevelt Franklin has a blog titled “White People Love Us“.
