On Wednesday night, a young man, Daymon AKA Racist Joe passed away. He was well known here in Columbus, Ohio, by a diverse group of people got along with the hip hop kids, the punk kids, the political kids really he got along with just about everybody. He was everywhere and hard to miss weighing at least 300lbs and over 6ft tall, he was a teddy bear. Since he passed away his MySpace profile has overflowed with comments.
MySpace for those of you out of the loop “is an online community that lets you meet your friends’ friends.”. People are sharing information about the wake, his passing, his life, and reaching out to each other and to Daymon. It is odd.
It is a new phenomena and I wonder what previous generations and future generations think of this expression. I wonder what it means to the grieving process?

Wow, Scottie was just mentioning him randomly a couple of days ago…..
About the online grieving and this…its hard to know. I have to say that it has been really helpful for me when Marla passed, but it came dangerously close to going overboard. But at the same time, what is not overboard when it comes to grief, and knowing you are not alone is a good feeling, because no matter what, you tend to feel utterly alone when grieving for someone. IT helps to share with others, and to hear what others are sharing too. It can be a double edged sword
FUCK that’s not who Scott was talking about, I graduated CAHS with him, in 95.
What an amazing funeral. Overflow to the max. What I found most interesting about the thing, was that in fact, myspace.com was mentioned in the program, along with the obit, letters from mom and dad, hymns. That’s a first for me for sure. Not that I have been to that many young people’s funeral’s in the last few years since myspace hit the scene, but still…
MySpace funerals … bizarre. My sympathies if he was a friend of yours.
