last.fm music

I am hooked on the site Last.fm. Last.fm tracks the music you and your friends listen to and then recommends new music, both indie and mainstream (which you can adjust to give you more of one than the other).

Their about page states:

You can use Last.fm to listen to music, find out about artists you may like, other people with similar music taste, gigs in your local area, charts and quilts for your personal site, as well as much more.

It has a lot of cool features available in its free mode, and of course, like the good AmeriKan that I am, I am a free rider. One of the features is that it tells you your music compatibility with your friends. Supposedly, my most compatibly buddy is Gustavo whom only has a “medium” music compatibility with me.

It appears though, that with all of my buddies there is at least some music we can agree on. Which means if we ever go on a long car trip, we will get along just fine.

Anyone want to guess what seems to be the most agreed on “good music” despite our wide array of music tastes? It is Café Tacuba! Who’d thunk!?

Below is my compatibility with some bloggers, mostly blogueros of blogtitlan.

The problem with last.fm - at least for me - is that I only listen to my iTunes when I’m either getting work done or relaxing in the evening. So it tends to record the mellowest music I listen to. I think that “music that oso listens to in the car” and “music that oso listens to at work” would probably have very low compatibility.

Maybe if I didn’t let my daughter use my iTunes our music would be more compatible. I am almost positive that you don’t listen to the Wiggles, High School Musical or Raffi!!! :-)

I’m w/Oso . . . I only have last.fm at work, so it only counts the music I listen to there. If my car music and home music was counted, I think that would be a more accurate depiction of my current tastes. I still like last.fm tho.

I haven’t listened to music on my computer very much since I got my iPod. I think last.fm will scrobble your iPod too, but it seems to only get the last song played.

Anyway, at least we share Café Tacuba, Maná, Los Tigres del Norte, Billie Holiday, and The Cure.

Not half-bad.
